Directive on Substances Used in Meat, Poultry and Egg Production
|
USDA's Food Safety
and Inspection Service (FSIS) revised its directive on
safe and suitable ingredients used in the production of meat,
poultry, and egg products. Updates include labeling requirements
for ready-to-eat meat products containing tomato lycopene extract
and concentrate.

Readies a June Announcement on PHOs
|
While the FDA remains
mum, rumors are circulating that the agency will have some
announcement June 1 or thereabouts regarding its year-old proposal
to outlaw partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs).

GMA et al Lose
Bid to 'Stop the Clock' on Vermont GMO Law until Lawsuit is
Resolved
|
A federal court has rejected an attempt by the Grocery
Manufacturers Association (GMA) and other trade associations to
prevent the state of Vermont from implementing its controversial
GMO labeling law until litigation over the legislation has been
resolved.

USDA to
Propose Standards For Organic Seafood Raised in US
|
The Agriculture Department says it will propose
standards for the farmed organic fish year this year. That means
the seafood could be available in as few as two years - but only if
USDA moves quickly to complete the rules and seafood companies
decide to embrace them.

2015: The Year GMO Labeling Began

March 2015 was an eventful month for the subject of
genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in food. The two tempests
stirred up by recent news and all the other issues in this
long-running debate look to be headed for some kind of resolution
