FDA’s Reorganization Approved for Establishing Unified Human Foods Program, New Model for Field Operations and Other Modernization Efforts

The FDA reached a significant milestone with approval of its reorganization involving the creation of a unified Human Foods Program (HFP), adoption of a new model for its field operations and other significant modernization efforts. The reorganization implementation is currently targeted for Oct. 1, 2024.

Florida First to Ban Lab-Grown Meat in State

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill that outlaws the manufacture and distribution of so-called “lab-grown” meat in the state as a threat to Florida agriculture. “Take your fake lab-grown meat elsewhere,” DeSantis said. “We are not doing that in the State of Florida.” SB 1084, as signed by DeSantis, is the first of its kind bill banning lab-grown meat in a state.

Agencies Collaborate on Biotechnology Regulation Plans

Three federal agencies recently unveiled a joint regulatory plan designed to update, streamline and clarify regulations and oversight for biotechnology products. The EPA, FDA, and USDA noted that the plan is designed to support a whole-of-government approach to regulation and biotechnology products.
